What roast level really means

By KX Roastery · August 22, 2026 · 1 min read

At Kafe Xpress roast is a filter, not a category: you pick the coffee first, then the roast profile that suits it. Here is what each level actually does.

Light

Stops just after first crack. Bright, floral, fruit-forward, higher perceived acidity; the origin character is loudest. Best for pour over and filter.

Medium-Light · Medium

The balance point: caramel and chocolate sweetness, acidity rounded off, body filling in. Works in nearly every brewer — this is where most of our single origins sit.

Medium-Dark

Rich cocoa, lower acidity, heavier body; the roast begins to speak alongside the origin. Made for espresso, moka and milk.

Dark · Extra Dark

Bold, roasty, bittersweet chocolate; almost no acidity. French press, moka, cold brew. Our Italian Roast lives here — taken to the edge, not over it.

Every KX card and product page shows the roast on a six-dot scale so you can compare at a glance.
